Job summary

Job description

Instructional Services Reference Librarian - 2457

Position within the Academic Affairs Library Services department at UNC Pembroke. Exempt Professional Staff (1.0 FTE), open until filled.

Primary Purpose: Serve as the primary librarian for instructional technology, pedagogy of LIB1000 classes, and one‑shot library instruction sessions. Responsibilities include supervising library technicians, developing online learning materials, designing instructional content, teaching LIB1000 courses, assessing instruction services, promoting faculty and student engagement, and coordinating library outreach and programming.

  • Supervise library technician(s) within the instruction department.
  • Develop and maintain online learning materials for the library, including learning management systems, Open Education Resources, LibGuides, AI tools, digital repositories, and other innovative digital tools.
  • Design collaborative material for librarians with instructional duties, such as Instructional Resource modules, tutorials, and interactive content for library instruction and course offerings.
  • Teach undergraduate LIB1000 (3 Credit) semester classes and library instruction sessions using the Association of College and Research Libraries Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
  • Assess instruction services and activities by writing reports and analyzing data.
  • Promote the library instruction department through campus communication, online content creation, marketing materials, resource tutorials, and student programming.
  • Represent the library department as a campus leader in retention initiatives including orientations, admissions events, and first‑year and transfer student programming.
  • Maintain active research and learning within the profession.
  • Provide flexible late night and weekend coverage for outreach and campus initiatives.

Required qualifications: ALA accredited Master’s degree; MLIS. Experience supervising library technicians, academic library experience, and teaching instructional courses in higher education are preferred.
