Job summary

Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library District is seeking a Security Supervisor to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for patrons and staff in Northbrook, IL. You will supervise part-time Security Monitor staff, manage emergencies, and support training while collaborating with library teams to uphold privacy and Library Bill of Rights.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed de-escalation, MHFA, and using security tech to inform decisions and improve safety across the library.

Qualifications

• Prior supervisory experience to hire, train, schedule, evaluate, discipline, and coach part-time Security Monitor staff.
• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills with the ability to openly, clearly, and respectfully engage with a diverse public, patrons, and staff within a varied environment with frequent interruptions.
• Demonstrated knowledge of crisis management & de-escalation including trauma-informed de-escalation, conflict resolution, Mental Health First Aid, and mediation.
• Ability to confidently coordinate emergency and incident response efforts, handle patron behavior issues, guide real-time crisis stabilization alongside the PIC, and deliver thorough post-incident reports.
• Full commitment to upholding library philosophy and ethics, including the Library Bill of Rights, protecting strict patron privacy/confidentiality, and supporting access to information for all community members.
• Certified or able to become certified in CPR, AED, Mental Health First Aid, and first aid.
• Knowledge of security technology, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and intrusion alerts, with the ability to use technology to assist in incident response, troubleshoot systems, and complete reports to inform data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

• Support safety training activities and promote service standards and EDI values.
• Utilize security technology to troubleshoot systems and collect data.
