Job summary

Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library District is seeking a Library Assistant to promote a welcoming environment and assist patrons with research and learning at the College of DuPage Library, DuPage County.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year college preferred.
• 6 months working with the public required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
• Positive attitude, collaborative mindset, and comfort with conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

• Promote a welcoming and safe environment for patrons.
• Monitor library areas in support of library policies.
• Explain library policy and spaces to patrons.
• Mediate conflicts as first point of contact and make referrals as needed.
• Assist in closing procedures.
• Answer directional questions and triage at service desks.
• Assist staff with reshelving and meeting patron needs.
• Report concerns, damages and needed repairs to appropriate staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
