City of Farmington’s Library is seeking a part-time Library Public Computer Lab Technician at the Farmington Public Library. You will assist patrons with basic computer use and help manage public computer access during peak hours.

The role requires knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office and web tools, good customer service, and the ability to work evenings and weekends. A valid driver's license is needed; training provided to operate library technology like 3D printers and AV equipment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate and support library technology (3D printers, AV equipment) and assist staff and patrons.

PAY GRADE: Temporary

JOB DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Works under the supervision of the Library Computer Support Supervisor (Public Technology Coordinator).

Must be available during peak use hours, which include weekdays, evenings and weekends.

Coordinates, organizes, and monitors use of public computers.

Responsible for providing exceptional customer service and assisting patrons with basic use of library's public computers and ensuring computer users comply with policies and guidelines relating to use of the computers and the internet.

Responsible for planning, scheduling and instruction of computer and technology appointments, as needed. Uses knowledge of computers, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Webmail and the World Wide Web to carry out job duties.

Responsible for mastering the use of library technology and assisting other employees, and patrons in its proper use. (Audio visual systems, 3D printer systems, Cricut machines, etc.)

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Windows computers and the World Wide Web. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, MacOS, and Apple products desired.

Comprehensive understanding of library procedures, which may be attained through on the job training.

Comprehensive understanding of library technologies, which may be attained through on the job training.

Knowledge of basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc.

Ability to learn and sufficiently operate the library's computers in order to assist patrons with the on-line catalog, electronic databases, the internet, and other computer applications.

Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public on all age levels, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.

Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.

Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.

Ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Library computer system, personal computer and printers, calculator, photocopier, telephone, and various computer numerical control machines (3D printer, laser engraver, sublimation printer, televisions, etc.)
