Job summary

The City of Saratoga Springs seeks a Programming Associate to assist Library Assistants with planning, coordinating, and staffing library events, and to perform circulation duties and patron assistance. This role requires attention to detail, good organization, and the ability to work with the public.

Under supervision, you will supervise volunteers, support youth services, and help deliver reading programs, with opportunities to engage the community and promote library services.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• One semester of advanced coursework in early elementary education.
• Three years previous experience in a Library, with six months experience working with Children ages 0-8.

Responsibilities

• Performs library related computer work such as entering and retrieving data, creating flyers and informational handouts, and other programming content.
• General upkeep of library to maintain orderliness, cleanliness, safety.
• Supervise volunteers including, but not limited to, the following: answer questions about assigned tasks; evaluate the accuracy of work; oversee volunteers during their designated volunteer shifts.
• Assists with the preparation and delivery of special reading programs and services for children, adults, and young adults; and supervision of program planning, execution and presentation by volunteers.
• Outreach to the schools and community is an extremely important aspect of this job.
• Covers for Library events in the absence of the Library Assistant and uses existing content and curriculum for additional sessions of preexisting programs.
• Attend professional meetings and training courses as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
