Job summary

Library Systems & Services, LLC. seeks a Library Associate 3 - Adult Services Assistant to lead programming and circulation tasks, delivering excellent customer service.

This 40-hour-per-week role may supervise Junior Library Associates and supports adult programming initiatives. You will assist with access, materials processing, displays, and patron inquiries while ensuring privacy and policy compliance in a public library setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Three years library experience preferred.
• One-year supervisory experience preferred.
• Proficiency with library systems and databases.
• Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
• Multilingual speaking is a plus.
• A high degree of proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint is desired.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work a regular schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service to patrons by greeting visitors, conducting library tours, and assisting patrons with all areas of the library.
• Regularly serve as building manager, overseeing circulation staff, submitting incident reports, and coordinating facility requests and operational needs as necessary.
• Collaborate closely with Librarians and library management to plan, implement, and promote programming for all age groups, with a particular focus on adult services.
• Assist with processing newly acquired library materials, including Zip Books, as well as weeding materials as directed by the Adult Librarian.
• Inform patrons of library rules of conduct as necessary and enforce policies appropriately.
• Assist with daily library opening and closing procedures.
• Support the reference desk and AskUs email service by assisting patrons with research, informational, and general library inquiries.
• Manage Community Room rentals and maintain accurate records related to reservations.
• Assist with setting up displays monthly or biweekly.
• Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies).
• Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
