Job summary

The Youth Services Assistant at South Burlington Public Library supports programs for school-aged youth, welcoming families and children of all ages, and assisting with technology and circulation desk duties. They plan, publicize, and implement drop-in and planned programs under the Youth Services Librarian, curate displays, de-escalate conflicts, and help patrons find materials.

A strong customer service background, experience with youth, and willingness to enroll in library certificate

Qualifications

• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Experience with school aged children is required or preferred.
• Willingness to enroll in Vermont Department of Libraries Certificate Program is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets patrons and shares accurate information about library programs and services.
• Plans and presents activities and programs for school aged youth.
• Assists other staff with activities for children of all ages.
• Familiarizes with trends in youth literature and recommends materials and displays.
• Assists patrons in finding materials and information.
• Maintains welcoming KidSpace and handles phone inquiries.
• Performs routine circulation and processing tasks as needed.
• Enforces library policies and ensures positive interactions.
