Job summary

SCPL is seeking an Assistant Director to oversee day-to-day library operations from the Main Library in Kentucky. You will act in the Executive Director’s absence, helping shape policies, staff development, and community engagement.

The role requires thoughtful leadership, strategic planning, and collaboration with all departments to ensure excellent library services and strong governance. On-site work with travel to meet partners is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Master’s degree preferred: Library and Information Science, MBA, or Education.
• Minimum seven years of progressively increasing administrative/management responsibilities.
• Five years of professional library experience preferred.
• Professional I or II KDLA certification is attainable.
• Valid driver’s license for transportation needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day library operations under the Executive Director’s supervision.
• Develop and administer library policies, procedures, and processes.
• Collaborate with departments, community partners, and external agencies.
• Supervise higher management levels and participate in leadership team meetings.
• Prepare reports, budgets, and procurement specifications; monitor budgets.
• Ensure training records and mandatory staff training are up to date.
