Job summary

Pima County Public Library seeks an experienced Assistant Director Library to lead Public Services and Customer Experience. You will supervise managers, align services with community needs, and drive agency-wide initiatives across multiple locations.

The role requires a MLIS or higher, extensive leadership experience, and strong collaboration with partners. Occasional travel between library sites is expected as part of the responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Education, Public Administration, Public Policy, Communications, Social Work, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field; plus six years of related experience including three years of management supervision.
• Master’s degree in library science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily operations across library locations to ensure consistent service.
• Supervises, mentors, and evaluates staff; supports professional development and team cohesion.
• Participates in budget planning, grant development, and resource allocation.
• Leads major projects including technology upgrades, facility improvements, and program expansions.
• Collaborates with community partners, schools, and local organizations to expand outreach and programming.
• Represents the library at community events, board meetings, and professional gatherings.
• Supports development and evaluation of programs, services, and collections reflecting community needs.
• Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and engages teams in change management.
