Job summary

The Ohio Library Council seeks an experienced Assistant Director to support the Director and oversee library services across the system. You will supervise staff, guide program initiatives, and ensure compliance with policy and safety standards.

This full-time leadership role requires evening and some Saturday work, budget oversight, and collaboration with local officials to advocate for funding. A MLS/MLIS is required, with 3–5 years in library management.

Qualifications

• MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited library school.
• Three to five years of library management experience.
• Evenings and some Saturdays are required.

Responsibilities

• Participates in hiring, training, and evaluating staff; ensures duties follow procedures and policies.
• Assists the Director and serves in the Director's absence.
• Directs extension operations with branch and mobile services supervision.
• Fosters relationships with village and township officials within the district.
• Oversees safety and security, including scheduling of security personnel.
• Prepares system-wide statistics and reports (quarterly/annual).
• Advocates for library funding at local, state, and national levels.
• Develops/updates the Code of Conduct and safety policies; mentors managers toward policy adherence.
