Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library is seeking a Materials Services Associate at the Hilliard Branch to handle processing and distribution of materials, shelving accuracy, and basic customer assistance. The role supports a welcoming, efficient library environment with a focus on precision in handling materials and providing service.

Typical duties include sorting and shelving, assisting patrons with self-service tech, and participating in team tasks.

Qualifications

• Ability to pass an alphabetic and numeric sorting and filing test required.
• Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e. Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems.
• Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Processes and sorts materials accurately and efficiently; including returned materials, reserved items for incoming and outgoing delivery, expired reserved materials, and new materials. Checks in items.
• Sorts and shelves library materials and maintains shelves throughout location; including pulling materials for processing, shelf reading for accurate order of materials, shifting material to ensure appropriate distribution of materials, merchandising items, and straightening items on shelves.
• Meets accuracy and speed standards for shelving.
• Supports location’s customer service plan by greeting customers, answering basic directional questions, locating or retrieving materials, assisting with self-service public technology, and making referrals.
• Maintains library collection by identifying and solving problems with library materials, cleaning, processing withdrawn/donated materials, pulling materials in poor condition, sorting for delivery, and processing reports.
• Helps ensure that the location is neat, orderly, appealing and inviting to customers and staff and other clerical duties as assigned.
• Performs additional duties including serving on task forces, committees, etc.
