Job summary

Indian Trails Library District in Wheeling, IL is seeking a dedicated Custodian/Facilities Assistant to help maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized library environment. Responsibilities include opening/closing, event setup, daily cleaning, minor repairs, and coordination with facilities and security teams.

Ideal candidates will have 2–3 years of experience, excellent customer service, and the ability to multi-task in a busy public setting.

Qualifications

• 2 to 3 years of experience in facilities or custodial work.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work with the public calmly and effectively in interruptions or stressful situations.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist with opening and closing the building and during emergencies.
• Assist with setting up rooms for programs and events.
• Provide proactive custodial support and daily cleaning tasks (garbage, bathrooms, vacuuming, dusting, surfaces).
• Report safety issues or damage and assist with minor repairs (basic plumbing/electrical).
• Assist with groundskeeping (snow/sidewalks) and moving library materials between locations.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and coordinate with facilities and security teams.
