Job summary

The University of Chicago Library seeks an Entrance Desk Attendant for Regenstein Library to warmly welcome patrons, enforce access policies, and provide guidance on library resources. The role requires handling high and low activity with exceptional customer service while maintaining security and privacy standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Experience in customer service is required.
• One year of general office or clerical experience preferred.
• Experience in a college or university is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist library patrons with consistent, policy-based service.
• Monitor entry systems for valid access and verify IDs.
• Coordinate with staff on visitor scheduling and information sharing.
• Protect privacy and handle sensitive data with discretion.
• Report emergencies to UCPD and facilities as needed.
• Serve as building representative during Extended Study periods.
• Monitor security cameras and ensure building access and closing procedures.
• Troubleshoot entry systems and report issues to appropriate offices.
