Job summary

Cornwall Public Library is seeking a part-time Custodial Worker to perform cleaning, maintenance, and minor repairs under supervision. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, window washing, dusting, bathroom upkeep, and basic repairs to furniture and fixtures.

The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and teamwork in maintaining a clean, safe facility. Compensation ranges from $20.40 to $26.93 per hour, DOQ, with part-time work and standard library operations.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment.
• Familiarity with heating/cooling systems operation and maintenance; basic repairs.
• Ability to perform minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and mechanical repairs.
• Ability to follow simple oral and written directions.
• Willingness to perform custodial and manual tasks.
• Physical condition commensurate with duties.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, wax floors; wash walls and windows; vacuum and dust.
• Dust desks, woodwork, furniture, shelves, and equipment.
• Maintain bathrooms; clean lavatories; replace soap and towels; basic facility maintenance.
• Empty wastebaskets; collect and dispose of refuse.
• Move and arrange tables, chairs and equipment.
• Make minor repairs to furniture, fixtures, windows, locks, faucets, heating system; perform small carpentry/painting/plumbing tasks.
• Routine maintenance tasks related to building operating systems (e.g., changing filters).
• Groundskeeping: snow removal, lawn mowing, leaves raking, shrub trimming; debris removal.
• Inform Director of maintenance and repair needs of equipment.
• Maintain inventory and submit order requests for supplies.”
• Follow safety rules; keep premises safe and secure.
• Other duties as assigned.
