Job summary

Harnett County Public Library is seeking a part-time Library Assistant to support circulation, information services, and technology assistance at the Main Library and branch locations in Harnett County.

The role requires flexibility for mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends, with up to 29 hours per week and mandatory rotating Saturday shifts. A high school diploma is required and notary training may be pursued within the first year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required.
• No experience required but some library or customer service experience is preferred.
• Willing to obtain Notary Public within 1 year of hire.
• Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Responds to routine inquiries and refers patrons to appropriate sources.
• Performs circulation duties: register patrons, check items in/out, collect fines, manage accounts.
• Locate and shelve materials and assist patrons with catalog/searches.
• Instructs patrons on accessing online and digital materials.
• Assists patrons with self-checkout terminals, coin machines, and holds.
• Balances cash drawer and performs daily deposits.
• Performs opening and closing duties; maintains library order and safety.
