Job summary

The Harnett County Public Library System seeks an organized Library Technician to support the Technical Services Department. Responsibilities include cataloging materials in the NC Cardinal system, preparing items for circulation, repairing print materials, and assisting patrons with reference needs and online catalogs.

The role requires an Associate’s degree in library science or related field, one year of library experience, and a valid NC driver's license. Some weekend rotation is required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in library science or related field.
• 1 year of library experience (preferred).
• Equivalent education/experience accepted.
• Willing to obtain Notary Public within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Catalogs materials for library collection: downloads records, verifies bibliographic information, assigns call numbers, adds jackets, applies barcodes, pockets, and security devices.
• Assess items for damage and determine repair or withdrawal.
• Maintain inventory of department equipment and supplies.
• Verify accuracy of items ordered/received and manage serials.
• Assist patrons in person, by email, or by phone; guide users to online catalog and resources.
• Work rotating Saturdays due to library hours.
