Job summary

Worthington Libraries in Worthington Park Library is seeking a part-time Library Associate to assist patrons, locate materials, and help with technology and circulation tasks.

This role emphasizes customer service, basic computer skills, and the ability to pass sorting and computer skills tests, with responsibilities spanning youth and adult services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or a high school diploma or GED and an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• A minimum of one (1) year of customer service experience; and
• Ability to pass alphanumeric sorting test; and
• Ability to pass computer skills test

Responsibilities

• Proactively provides customer service.
• Interviews, researches, and answers questions from patrons.
• Recommends materials based on patrons’ interest.
• Supports Librarians in developing and maintaining the collection, as directed.
• Maintains periodical collections, including associated paperwork, tracking claims, routing, filing, labeling, stamping and weeding out-of-date materials, as assigned.
• Assists patrons with basic troubleshooting of common software products, operating systems, browsers and other technologies associated with library services (including handheld devices, e-readers, laptops, tablets, etc.).
• Assists with planning, coordination and presentation of library programs, storytimes and special events, as assigned.
• Performs duties of Storytime Associate and Circulation Assistant, as needed.

Superior working knowledge of traditional and electronic resources including web sites and databases; excellent online searching skills6. Ability to deliver programs and speak before groups7. Ability to sit and use computer for extended periods and operate standard office equipment, daily2. Ability to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds, daily3.
