Valencia College West Campus is seeking a full-time Library Assistant to provide general circulation services to students, faculty, staff, and community members. The role is primarily on-site with duties including acquisitions processing and interlibrary loan support.

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service, solid computer skills (Excel, Power BI), and the ability to train student workers. Salary starts around $34,780 per year with opportunities for professional development.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions
  1. Circulates materials by issuing borrowers cards, charging and discharging items, using an automated circulation system.
  2. Receives, processes, and maintains the library’s serials collection. Processes materials for bindery which may require lifting, carrying, and pulling/pushing book carts.
  3. Assists in the training, supervision, and evaluation of student assistant assignments.
  4. Assists in guiding workflow and supervising Staff library assistants.
  5. Assists in the processing of intra-campus loans and interlibrary loans.
  6. Assists in the processing and maintenance of reserve materials for faculty and students.
  7. Assists in the maintenance and inventory of the library collection.
  8. Assists patrons in using library equipment.
  9. Maintains area statistics and processes area reports, as directed by supervisor.
  10. Accesses, inputs, and retrieves data from a computer.
  11. Keeps supervisor informed of needs, concerns, and issues related to policies, services, staff, and resources.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

  3. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work effectively without direct supervision.
  4. Ability to access file cabinets and bookshelves.

General Working Conditions

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making. The typical work environment, physical and cognitive demands listed above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
