University of Alabama Libraries seeks a library professional to provide general reference and information services at service desks, including reader’s advisory and user instruction. You will support Interlibrary Loan, handle non-traditional collections, and coordinate the Community Workshop.
MLS preferred; strong knowledge of library policies, excellent communication and organizational skills, and willingness to work evening and weekend shifts are required.
Briefly, the purpose and responsibilities of this position are: to provide general information services, answering basic as well as in-depth reference queries using a variety of primary and secondary sources, while working at various service desks; to provide Interlibrary Loan service, including procuring and processing requested items from other libraries for WPFL users, and preparing locally held materials for distribution to other libraries; to develop, implement, and evaluate collections of non-traditional library items; to coordinate and oversee use of the Community Workshop; and to participate in collection development and management.

A thorough working knowledge of library policies and procedures is required. At least one weekly evening shift and some weekend work will be required.
Experience in working with computers is highly desirable, as are excellent communication and organizational skills.
