LIBRARIAN - ADULT PROGRAMMING

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The purpose and responsibility of this position: to provide general information services, answering basic as well as in-depth reference queries using a variety of primary and secondary sources, while working at various service desks; to develop, implement, and evaluate adult programs and educational opportunities; to coordinate and provide community outreach services, including mobile library pop-ups and other off-site services; to facilitate use of the Community Workshop; and to participate in collection development and management.

  1. 1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
  2. 2 S Provides general reference and informational services at service desk by: assisting library users in locating materials, performing reader’s advisory, explaining library policies and procedures, assisting computer users and providing basic instruction, operating and troubleshooting equipment, responding to complaints and/or compliments, checking materials in and out, placing items on hold, and collecting fines. Assists with sorting materials, accurately shelving returned materials, and inventories. Conducts tours as needed and delivers presentations about the library and library use to community groups. Maintains good appearance and order of assigned portion of the library stacks. Takes routine meeting-room reservations.
  3. 3 S Assists in collection development by researching and evaluating materials, ordering assigned fiction genres and assigned-subject nonfiction, monitoring assigned budget areas, and assisting with deselection.
  4. 4 L Plans, promotes, and implements library programs as needed, either passive or active; plans, coordinates, promotes, and provides community outreach services, including mobile library pop-ups and other off-site library services; collects quotes, price increases, usage statistics, etc. as needed for budget process.
  5. 5 S Acts as an effective advocate for the library by explaining its mission, goals, services, and programs.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience-Related Requirements Over two years and up to and including four years.
  • Vocational/ Educational Preparation Requires Bachelor's degree in engineering or the hard sciences such as architecture, chemistry, geology, biology, mathematics, or physics or a Master's Degree in Liberal Arts or Business.
