Job summary

King William County Library System seeks an entry-level Librarian 1 to join the Library Management Team and support policy development, services, and program initiatives. The role involves working with staff to execute projects and manage library resources, with potential supervision of Junior Library Associates.

Hours: 40 per week. Required MLS/MLIS and strong customer service, plus proficiency in MS Office and library databases. Flexible schedule including some evenings/weekends may be needed.

Qualifications

• MLS or MLIS degree required.
• One year librarian experience preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of online library databases and services.
• Excellent customer service skills and communication (oral and written).
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and executes a variety of programs and initiatives for the library.
• Evaluates basic statistical data and prepares basic statistical reports and surveys for the library and management.
• Processes, creates and edits bibliographic and item records for the library catalog.
• Maintains and updates the library social media and webpage; may support other branches.
• Provides reference and computer help to patrons.
• Serves on committees; may chair committees.
• May handle opening/closing responsibilities and cash reports.
• Be responsible for the collection management process.
• Be a proficient reader advisor.
• May supervise Junior Library Associates including performance management and hiring.
• Adheres to the Library Bill of Rights and privacy policies.
