Job summary

Merlin Entertainments in Goshen, NY seeks a hands-on LEGO model builder/maintenance role within the Model Shop. You will build, install, repair, and remove LEGO models for LEGOLAND resort attractions, and interact with guests daily to explain building techniques.

Requires safety focus, ability to read briefs, operate basic tools, and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. Experience with 3D design or LEGO modeling is preferred; high school diploma required.

Reports To: Model Shop Manager

Department: Technical Services

Job Classification: Non-exempt

Position Summary

Must be able to build, install, repair, and remove LEGO models for a variety of LEGOLAND resort attractions including Miniland models such as Minilanders, cars, small buildings, as well as sculpted Parkwide models. This is a guest facing position and would require guest interactions on a regular, day to day, basis.

Qualifications & Experience

• Keeps safety of guests, employees, and LEGO models the #1 priority.
• Works with the LEGO library of elements to create and repair fun and exciting LEGO models for guests to enjoy.
• Recognizes models in situ on daily walkthrough that need repair, replacing, or redesign.
• Responds to duty manager and radio calls during operational hours, expediting repairs to ensure guest and fellow Model Citizens’ safety and comfort at all times.
• Brings any LEGO model issues that cannot be resolved/repaired for park opening to Model Shop Manager’s attention.
• Follows design brief from internal customers to meet attraction needs.
• Ensures the security and safety of all models by inspecting for safety hazards, following the preventative maintenance program established by Animation team, including any emergency repairs as required to keep down time to an acceptable minimum in all areas of attractions and facilities.
• Ensures that all model work areas are kept clean and organized at all times.
• Operates some basic machine tools, such as drills, blowers, grinding wheel, and belt sander.
• Keep tools, machines, and all other company equipment in good working order.
• Keeps informed and updated on modern techniques and technical methods by attending supplemental training courses, trips, seminars, conventions, etc.
• Maintains good working relationship with fellow Model Shop, Technical Services, and other departments’ MCs.
• Follows LEGOLAND-established employee handbook and safety policies at all times.
• Must be able to react calmly and rationally under pressure or in an emergency.
• Ability to work with guests to teach and explain building techniques in a classroom setting.
• Must be comfortable with talking to and interacting with guests on a regular basis all while providing a fun and inclusive environment.
• Demonstrated experience in 3D design, spatial modeling, or creative concept design, with the ability to assist in custom model development as site or project needs dictate.

Background and Experience

Requires experience in a hands‑on design, maker or craft field, with a basic understanding of the practices, tools, and equipment used to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain LEGO models. Ability to read and evaluate attraction briefs, reports and correspondence. Must be able to read drawings and understand briefs. Ideal candidate preferably has a working knowledge of all phases of model production and maintenance for Miniland and sculpted Parkwide models. A general of knowledge LEGO elements is required; an in-depth understanding is preferred. Ability to observe and remember details, and to follow Model Shop Manager’s directions effectively. Preferably a self-driven, proactive employee.

Professional LEGO model shop experience is a nice-to-have, not a requirement.

CAD or LEGO software experience is a nice-to-have, not a requirement.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Other Requirements

Must be willing to work flexible hours, rotating schedules to include evenings, weekends and holidays to support park operations.

Must have valid driver's license and safe driving record. Reviewed every 6 months.

Must be willing to travel locally and regionally to conduct business, and occasional travel within the U.S.

Pay Range

USD $19.00/Hr.
