Responsibilities

  • Develop legislative initiatives and collaborate closely with the legislative and communications teams to advance the office priorities.
  • Tracking legislation and other developments in assigned issue areas and preparing briefings House floor, committee, in-district efforts, and outside House-related activities.
  • Monitoring legislative developments within relevant committees.
  • Planning and coordinating support of legislation.
  • Writing floor speeches.
  • Acting as liaison with committee and agency staff.
  • Performing special projects as assigned.
  • Meeting with constituents and stakeholder groups.
  • Assisting with preparation of weekly reports.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY

Congresswoman Jahana Hayes(CT-05)seeks an experienced Legislative Assistant to join her Washington, D.C. office.The ideal candidate will have worked in a policy role on Capitol Hill for at least two years.The LegislativeAssistant will be responsible for managing a broad policy portfolio.Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to thrive under pressure and meetstrictdeadlines,attention to detail,and a commitment to working non-standard hours, especially when the House is in session, are essential attributes.This is not anentry-levelposition. Connecticut ties are preferred but not required. Only applicants who meet all qualifications will be considered.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Develop legislative initiatives and collaborate closely with the legislative and communications teams to advance theofficepriorities;
  • Tracking legislation and other developments in assigned issue areas andpreparingbriefingsHousefloor, committee, in districtefforts, and outside House-relatedactivities;

QUALIFICATIONS

This is not an entry-level position. At leasttwoyears of relevantlegislativeexperience isrequired. Applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be considered;
