Job summary

Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) in Washington, D.C. seeks an experienced Legislative Assistant to manage a broad policy portfolio and support the Congresswoman’s legislative agenda on Capitol Hill.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of relevant legislative experience, exceptional written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure with deadlines during House sessions. Connecticut ties are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Develop legislative initiatives and collaborate closely with the legislative and communications teams to advance the office priorities.
• Tracking legislation and other developments in assigned issue areas and preparing briefings House floor, committee, in-district efforts, and outside House-related activities.
• Monitoring legislative developments within relevant committees.
• Planning and coordinating support of legislation.
• Writing floor speeches.
• Acting as liaison with committee and agency staff.
• Performing special projects as assigned.
• Meeting with constituents and stakeholder groups.
• Assisting with preparation of weekly reports.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
