Job summary

Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30) seeks a Legislative Assistant to manage a broad policy portfolio, including science, space, technology, energy, foreign affairs, and defense. You will draft and edit legislation, brief the Member, and coordinate with staff across committees and district offices.

You will build relationships with stakeholders, track bills, and help prepare speeches and press materials for the Member.

Qualifications

  • Draft and edit legislation, amendments, resolutions, letters, and memos.
  • Track legislation and coordinate co-sponsorship for the Member.
  • Brief the Member on bills and provide policy briefings to inform district office staff.

Responsibilities

  • Staffing the Representative’s work on the Committee on Science, Space and Technology.
  • Managing a portfolio to include science, space, technology, telecommunications, energy, foreign affairs, defense, veterans, and tribal issues.
  • Working with the Legislative Director and Chief of Staff to formulate and advance legislative initiatives for assigned issue areas.
  • Drafting and editing legislation, amendments, resolutions, letters and memos.
  • Building relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Representing the Member at meetings with constituents and interest groups.
  • Tracking legislation and coordinating co-sponsorship of bills for the Member.
  • Tracking and briefing the member on developments in their policy areas.
  • Briefing the Member on bills before the House, providing advice on Committee activity, and assisting the district office staff with legislative matters that impact the local community.
  • Providing input to the Communications Director to draft speeches, press releases, op-eds, and Congressional Record statements for the Member.
  • Supporting constituent service through agency and policy knowledge.
  • Providing district office staff with targeted information for community events.
