Description

The Legislative Aide will work under the Chief of Staff to support office operations, communications, casework, and district events. The role is a six‑month temp‑to‑perm internship with potential for a permanent position. The position requires a team‑focused mindset, attention to detail, and willingness to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Support office operations: scheduling, calendars, meeting requests, correspondence and general administrative tasks.
  • Assist with preparation of materials for meetings, events, briefings and public appearances.
  • Lead marketing & communications: newsletters, social media, press releases, announcements and talking points.
  • Coordinate community events, meetings and district initiatives (logistics, promotion, follow‑up).
  • Serve as point of contact for constituents and partners; manage inquiries, referrals and casework.
  • Represent the office at meetings and events as assigned.
  • Assist with legislative and policy functions: research, track City Council and committee activity, and prepare summaries or reports.
  • Maintain records: organized files, shared‑drive folders and reference materials.
  • Assist with compliance, ethics and finances as required.
  • Coordinate volunteers, interns and fellows.
  • Monitor media coverage affecting district priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and evenings.
  • At least one year of experience serving a culturally and ethnically diverse constituency in a nonprofit or government agency.
  • Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of equivalent experience in communications, political science, public policy or a related field.
  • Long Beach resident.
  • Fluent in Spanish.
  • Strong experience in event planning, nonprofit work, case management or constituent services.
