Description

If this sounds like you, then you might be the ideal candidate for Legal Secretary at the London Trial Officeof the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy.

In this important role in Kentucky’s largest criminal defense firm, you will be acting as both a liaisonbetween attorneys, clients, and other members of the community. You will also be expected to draft and edit avariety of documents, so excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - are a must. Timemanagement skills are also valued as the ideal candidate will be handling multiple time-sensitive tasks forvarious attorneys, and the ideal candidate will be able to prioritize and complete requested dutiesindependently.

Knowledge of programs like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Courtnet, and other courtrelated platforms is preferred.

Our clients are people not able to afford an attorney who the government has charged with criminal offenses inWarren County. Compassion for our clients and commitment to our mission are critical characteristics for thesuccessful candidate.

A pleasant, outgoing personality both in-person and on the phone are also highly desirable traits for thisposition.

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • File creation.
  • Preparing correspondence.
  • Data entry.
  • Answering phones.
  • Greeting clients as needed.
  • Prepare and/or proofread legal documents for staff attorneys.
  • Assisting with other clerical tasks.

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of clerical experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
