The CalSTRS Office of the General Counsel is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Staff Services Manager II on the Operations team.
Under the direction of the Teachers' Retirement Board and the administrative direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Office of the General Counsel provides advice on legal issues affecting the overall programs and policies of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS). It manages CalSTRS legal program and represents the System in litigation, appeals, and other legal matters.
The Office of the General Counsel comprises multiple complex business areas: Office of Legal Ethics & Accountability (OLEA), Enterprise Information Management & Legal Operations, Information Security Office, Legal Services, Investment Counsel, and Litigation Services.
The Enterprise Information Management & Operations unit is responsible for implementing an enterprise-wide information governance framework, including record retention management, policy development, compliance support, and facilitating timely information access for members, stakeholders, and staff.
The Operations team provides legal support for appeals filed with the Office of Administrative Hearing, litigation, and general legal matters. Responsibilities include legal research, document filing, hearing preparation, and participation in organizational reporting such as Risk, Compliance, and Customer Service Roundtables. The team also oversees branch policy, strategic reporting, Board material development, budget and contract management, procurement, invoice processing, and administrative functions.
Under the direction of the Enterprise Information Management and Operations Director, the Staff Services Manager II (SSM II) manages and directs the daily activities of the Operations section, supervising technical and analytical staff, and assisting a subordinate supervisor with legal services administration.
The ideal candidate will possess skills in adaptability, multitasking, effective communication, performance monitoring, motivation, integrity, and strong organizational abilities.
Employees are eligible for annual salary increases based on performance, up to the maximum salary for the position.
