Can you manage complex client interactions and ensure seamless operations?

Are you ready to be the backbone of a dynamic legal team in a fast-growing firm?

Do you thrive under pressure while maintaining precision and efficiency?

Final question: When faced with a challenge, do you get excited or run away?

Rooted in compassion and driven by results, Boroja, Bernier & Associates is a trusted legal advocate for individuals and families across Michigan. Based in Shelby Township, the firm represents clients in family law, probate and estate planning, criminal defense, and disability matters. Every case is handled with empathy, professionalism, and a deep commitment to achieving the best possible outcome.

The firm has built its reputation on trust, clear communication, and dedicated client service. Each team member shares the same guiding principle: deliver honest guidance, treat clients with respect, and create meaningful impact through diligent, results-focused representation.

The Legal Assistant at BBA Law exists to support the firm's expanding Family Law practice. As a key operational partner within the practice, this role is crucial for maintaining high levels of client service, responsiveness, and operational efficiency. The Legal Assistant will help manage client communications, streamline administrative processes, and ensure matters remain organized and on track. By providing proactive support, strong follow-through, and effective case coordination, this role enables attorneys to focus on high-value legal work while delivering exceptional outcomes for clients.

What you'll do:
  • Email Management: Manage high-volume email communications by prioritizing urgent matters, tracking deadlines, coordinating follow-up, and ensuring important messages are addressed promptly and nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Client Interaction: Serve as a key point of contact for clients, opposing parties, and other stakeholders by providing timely updates, answering inquiries, and fostering a professional and responsive experience.
  • Family Law Support: Support family law matters through client communication, case coordination, deadline tracking, document preparation, and administrative case management.
  • Court Coordination: Facilitate court-related tasks, including preparing proofs of service, coordinating subpoenas, and managing procedural requirements to help ensure matters remain organized and compliant.
  • Document Assistance: Assist with drafting legal documents, preparing forms, conducting legal support work, and maintaining accurate documentation to support case progression.
  • Case Management: Maintain up-to-date case status, monitor deadlines, coordinate next steps, and proactively follow up on pending matters to keep cases progressing smoothly.
  • Accountability Management: Help keep cases, communications, and priorities on track by proactively following up on outstanding items, reminding stakeholders of pending actions, and ensuring important deadlines and commitments are not overlooked.
What we're looking for:
  • Family Law Experience: 2-3+ years of legal assistant or legal support experience preferred. Family law experience is strongly preferred; however, candidates from other civil litigation backgrounds with strong procedural and case management experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and confidently with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders on a daily basis.
  • Organizational Abilities: Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a proven ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and prevent scheduling or communication breakdowns.
  • Independent Work Ethic: Resourceful and self-directed, capable of making sound operational decisions, solving routine challenges, and keeping work moving forward with minimal supervision.
  • Professional Demeanor: Comfortable in a direct and fast-paced environment, with the professionalism, judgment, and interpersonal awareness to adapt communication styles appropriately for different audiences and situations.
  • On-Site Engagement: Thrives in an in-office role where collaboration and direct engagement with colleagues are integral to success.
Why you should work here:
  • High-Visibility Role: Work alongside Joel Bernier, a highly respected partner leading the firm's Family Law practice, serving as a trusted operational partner whose contributions have a visible impact on client service and daily operations.
  • Autonomy and Trust: Take ownership of meaningful responsibilities and enjoy the autonomy to make decisions, solve problems, and help drive matters forward in a role that values initiative and accountability.
  • Dynamic Environment: Join a close-knit, fast-moving team that values candid communication, collaboration, and a proactive approach to keeping clients and cases on track.
  • Professional Growth: Grow alongside an expanding practice with opportunities to deepen your legal knowledge, expand your responsibilities, and become an integral part of the firm's continued success.
