Job summary

Who you are

A practicing attorney in the State of Michigan who has a minimum of 3 years of experience with Family Law. You have the expertise and compassion to guide families through legal complexities that span a wide range of issues—divorce, child custody, adoption, domestic violence, and more. You work with your colleagues in a collaborative manner to strategize, negotiate, and advocate for fair resolutions. You understand the intensity of these cases demands not only legal acumen but also emotional intelligence. Your work gives you a sense of purpose as an advocate who empowers parents, children, and spouses, making a lasting impact on their well-being.

What you do

• Case Management: Manage a caseload of approximately 30-35, prepare legal documents, and ensure compliance with court procedures.

• Client Communication: Communicate effectively with clients, explaining legal options and guiding them through the legal process.

• Continuous Learning: Stay updated on changes in family law, attend legal seminars, and enhance legal knowledge.

• Court Appearances: Represent clients in court hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings.

• Ethical Practice: Uphold professional ethics, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to legal standards.

• Legal Representation: Provide high quality legal counsel and representation to clients in family law matters, including divorce, child custody, and adoption.

• Legal Strategy: Develop effective legal strategies based on individual cases and client needs.

• Research and Analysis: Conduct legal research, analyze statutes, case law, and regulations to build strong arguments.

What is expected of you

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are used to measure the effectiveness and success of various tasks and duties within an organization. Success indicators for this position may change at the discretion of the organization, but include and are not limited to:

• Generating a minimum of 6.5 - 7 hours of billable work per day (1,560 – 1,680 hours per year)

• 90% success contemporaneously documenting all work

• Maintenance of positive customer satisfaction scores

• Maintenance of an average case value commensurate with company/industry standards

Skills, knowledge, and experience you possess

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

• Admission to the Michigan state bar and in good standing.

• Minimum of three years of experience in family law litigation, with a proven record of successful case outcomes.

• Command of rules of evidence and first chair experience.

The Where, What and How

• In office or remote, this will depend on you, where you live and what counties you serve.

• Some travel within Michigan for in person mediation, hearings, and occasional travel to Traverse City.

• You will be fully supported by a Paralegal and Legal Assistant.
