Job summary

TrueML is hiring a Legal Assistant to support the legal recovery department in Everett, WA. You will bridge gaps between collection officers and counsel, ensuring accurate litigation filings, meeting deadlines, and moving accounts through the court system.

You bring 1–3 years of legal experience, strong communication, meticulous proofreading, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with FDCPA and civil procedure is important. This is an onsite role with competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in a legal environment (Collections, Civil Litigation or Creditor’s Rights preferred).
  • Strong communication skills and professional demeanor.
  • Efficient proofing and attention to detail in all documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document templates.
  • Familiarity with FDCPA and local Rules of Civil Procedure.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process a high volume of court documents including summons, complaints, executions and dismissals.
  • Maintain the legal calendar; track court dates, deadlines and statutes of limitations.
  • Review accounts for legal readiness with organized backup documentation.
  • Maintain real-time case data within the CMS; track actions, file statuses and balances.
  • Calculate post-judgment interest and court costs to support accurate payoffs.
  • Liaise with court clerks, process servers and sheriff’s offices on filings and service.

Job description

We are seeking a highly organized and disciplined Legal Assistant to support our legal recovery department. In this role, you will bridge the gap between our collection officers and legal counsel, ensuring that all litigation paperwork is filed accurately, deadlines are met, and legal accounts move efficiently through the court system.

What You'll Do
  • Drive High-Volume Document Production: Prepare and process a large volume of court documents, including summons, complaints, executions, and dismissals.

  • Own Docket Management: Maintain the legal calendar, tracking court dates, filing deadlines, and statutes of limitations.

  • Audit Accounts: Review accounts for "legal readiness," ensuring all backup documentation is organized, admissible, and complete.

  • Manage Case Data: Maintain accurate, real-time records within our collection management system (CMS), tracking legal actions, file statuses, and judgment balances.

  • Perform Legal Calculations: Calculate post-judgment interest and court costs to ensure accurate payoff balances for consumers.

  • Act as a Liaison: Communicate directly with court clerks, process servers, and sheriff’s offices regarding filing fees and service of process status.

Who You Are
  • An Experienced Professional: You bring 1–3 years of experience in a legal environment (Collections, Creditor’s Rights, or Civil Litigation preferred).

  • A Strong Communicator: You are comfortable on the phone and can maintain your demeanor when speaking with employers.

  • Efficient and Accurate: You are precise and take pride in your proofreading abilities.

  • A Tech Pro: You have a strong command of Microsoft Office. You’re comfortable navigating spreadsheets and using document templates to stay organized.

  • Knowledgeable & Compliant: You have familiarity with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and local Rules of Civil Procedure.

Compensation

$21 – $22 an hour

Onsite Work & Physical Requirements

This is an onsite position based in our local office and regular, in-person attendance is an essential function of the role. The position requires collaboration, participation in in-person meetings, access to office resources, and partnership with cross-functional teams.

This role is primarily performed in a professional office environment and involves computer-based work, including extended periods working at a computer, using standard office technology, and communicating through verbal, written, and digital channels. The role may require moving throughout the office and occasionally lifting or moving office materials up to <10 pounds.
