Learning Analyst (Oil and Gas) – Field Training & Competency

We’re partnering with a leading oil and gas company to develop field-based training for unconventional well operators and mechanics. The work focuses on defining clear competency expectations, structuring training around how tasks are executed and decisions are made in the field, and establishing a consistent, standards-aligned field training framework. The Learning Analyst will work closely with Technical Writers to analyze work requirements, capture SME knowledge, and translate that input into clear training and competency structures.

Key Responsibilities

Competency Framework Development

  • Build competency frameworks using existing Job Task Analysis (JTA) outputs.
  • Define required field tasks, decisions, and performance expectations that form the basis of training.
  • Identify competency gaps and clarify requirements where documentation is limited or missing.

Learning Analysis Module Structuring

  • Create learning analysis documents that define scope, assumptions, and development inputs for field training.
  • Review any available materials, procedures, and reference content to identify reuse, gaps, or inconsistencies.
  • Define module scope, boundaries, and verification inputs in coordination with Technical Writers.
  • Recommend module structures that support efficient development and use in the field.

Stakeholder and SME Collaboration

  • Plan and lead SME working sessions to elicit tacit knowledge, validate competency expectations, and resolve gaps.
  • Drive discussions toward clear decisions when requirements are unclear or conflicting.
  • Document outcomes, decisions, assumptions, and open items from SME sessions and share clear summaries with the project team.
  • Partner with Technical Writers to ensure technical content aligns with defined competencies and field performance expectations.

Start Date: Mid-February

Duration: 6+ months with the possibility to extend

Hours: Up to 40 hours per week; hours will be determined based on project needs

Location: Virtual; some travel required

Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Learning & Development, Instructional Design, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in learning analysis, training needs assessment, or instructional design
  • Strong analytical skills with a meticulous approach to content review and gap analysis
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with stakeholders, SMEs, and team members
  • Experience with competency frameworks
  • Proficiency in MS Excel or similar data management tools for tracking and maintaining analysis data.
  • Experience in oil and gas or a related industry like utilities is a must
  • Ability to work exclusively on a PC throughout the project is required

Pay range for this is $60.00 to $65.00 per hour W2. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, relevant education, certifications and specific work location.
