Responsibilities

• Performs barn chores such as cleaning stalls, turning out horses, moving or loading bedding.
• Monitors health and well-being of horses located on-site; may feed horses.
• Assists with property maintenance for barn and facilities.
• Maintains college fields and farm operations (plowing, disking, planting, harvesting).
• Repairs stalls, fences and paddocks; handles emergency/non-emergency situations per procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Summary

This posting is for a Learn & Earn position. To beeligible for Learn & Earn positions you must maintainenrollment in at least six (6) credits at LBCC, maintainsatisfactory academic progress throughout each term and maintain acumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better (some positions mayrequire a higher GPA ).

Essential Duties

1. Performs barn chores such as cleaning stalls, turning out horses, moving or loading bedding, etc.
2. Monitors health and well-being of horses located on-site. May feed horses.
3. Assists with providing routine property maintenance, such as cleaning, repairing, maintaining and improving barn and other facilities.
4. Assists with farm operations as needed, i.e., maintainingcollege fields (plowing and disking, leveling, planting,fertilizing, harvesting and maintaining various field crops,cutting, raking, bailing). Repairs horse stalls and paddock, drags arenas. Repairs and moves fences, etc.
5. Acts as liaison and handles situations as previously instructedFarm set forth in Center procedures, rules and protocol for bothemergency and non-emergency situations. Refers problems to Facultyor Instructional Specialist.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Requires good hand-eye coordinator and manual dexterity sufficient to operate hand tools, machines and equipment.
• Considerable physical effort including lifting over 50 pounds(bales, other), and working with large animals.
• Requires ability to bend, climb, kneel, stoop, crouch, balance, guide, reach, etc.
• Must have visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate equipment.
• Requires ability to walk and stand for extended periods oftime.
• Work is performed outdoors and in outdoor structures (horsebarns) in a farm setting with exposure to inclement weather.
• Some exposure to safety or health hazards (equipment noise,odor, manure, blood and fluids, farm chemicals).
• Required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or duringcollege closures.

Education and Experience

Must maintain enrollment in at least 6 credits at LBCC, maintainsatisfactory academic progress throughout each term and maintain acumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better (some positions mayrequire a higher GPA ), and have financial aid in place to be eligible to work in a Work Study student employee capacity atLinn-Benton Community College. Must have the abilityto work with farm tools, machinery and equipment, and doing basicfacility cleaning and maintenance. Experience handling horses,preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must have good communication skills to interact withco-workers, college staff and students.
• Must be knowledgeable in handling and caring for horses or havethe ability to learn.
• Must be familiar with rules and procedures and emergencyprotocol of a horse facility or have the ability to learn.
• Requires the ability to learn, understand and followprocedures, rules and protocol. Requires ability to workindependently.
• Must have the ability to operate farm tools, machinery and equipment (shovel, rake, wheelbarrow, tractor, etc.)
• Requires the ability to handle large, live animals.
