Job summary

U.S. Pipe and Foundry in Bessemer, AL is seeking a Process Engineer to support the Alabama Works facility. The role focuses on developing standardized melting, casting, and pipe processing procedures to ensure quality and reduce risk to people, environment, and customers.

The candidate will work with Operations, Quality, and Procurement to test new processes and materials, improve efficiency, quality, and cost in ductile iron pipe manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in materials/metallurgical/industrial/mech Eng or related field.
• 5+ years of manufacturing experience.
• 5–10 years in Manufacturing Process Engineering preferred.
• Experience with analytical methods and formal problem-solving.
• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience a plus.
• Experience with metallurgy, cement chemistry, adhesives or coatings a plus.
• Experience with simulation modeling for new/existing processes is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develops standard work and procedures to ensure efficiency and quality.
• Leads raw material specification development for supplier quality and procurement bids.
• Ensures finished product samples meet specs.
• Develops programs to reduce downtime, costs and scrap losses via Lean tools.
• Improves manufacturing processes to increase quality and profitability.
• Interacts with customers (internal/external) for recommendations and issue resolution.
• Provides plant support including training, time studies, and standard work auditing.
