Job summary

nVent is seeking a Lean Internship for the summer of 2027 in Blaine, MN. You will observe manufacturing processes, document cycle times, and identify value-added activities.

The role supports continuous improvement efforts such as 5S and visual management while collaborating with operations and support teams to implement measurable changes. You will be mentored by engineers and leaders, gain hands-on project experience, and have opportunities to advance to a subsequent internship or full-time

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain and Operations Management, Production and Inventory control, Engineering.
  • Graduating with an undergraduate degree between December 2027 and June 2028.
  • Able to complete a 12-week Full-Time Summer internship from May/June-August 2027 in Blaine, MN.

Responsibilities

Lean Internship

This internship offers the opportunity to apply Lean principles in a real-world manufacturing environment. You will work alongside operations and support teams to identify improvement opportunities and help bring practical solutions to life. This is a 12-week full-time internship during the summer 2027.

In this position, you will:

  • Spend time in manufacturing areas observing processes, documenting cycle times, and identifying value-added versus non-value-added activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, visual management, shadow boards, and workspace organization.
  • Assist with a variety of operational improvement projects, such as: Creating or updating tool shadow boards for workstations Updating workstation and floor location labels Assembling carts for material movement within and between work cells Scanning and organizing documents into retention folders Updating Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents
  • Partner with operations and support teams to understand needs, communicate updates, and help implement improvements.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Internship Details

  • Interns are paid $22 hourly for time worked
  • Interns are responsible for transportation to and from work
  • Interns who demonstrate outstanding performance may be offered a subsequent internship or full-time offer of employment with nVent
  • The Lean Internship is based out of our facility in Blaine, MN.

  • Training & Development: Training and development is provided throughout your internship through on-the-job experiences and structured learning opportunities, fostering the development of business acumen and leadership skills at a global organization.

A peer-led committee helps to organize social, professional and service-related activities and events for interns and early career professionals. You will also be invited to join our Employee Resource Groups (ERG’s) which offer special events, networking, professional development and volunteer opportunities throughout the year to promote inclusion and respect and to help us embrace our diversity.
  • Mentorship & Networking: Build a network of peers, managers and senior leaders to support your career path and aid your growth. Gain exposure to nVent professionals at every level who will act as formal and informal mentors during your internship.

YOU HAVE:

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain and Operations Management, Production and Inventory control, Engineering.
  • Graduating with an undergraduate degree between December 2027 and June 2028.
  • Ability to complete a 12-week Full-Time Summer internship from May/June-August 2027 in Blaine, MN.
  • Candidates applying for nVent’s Co-Op and Internship Program must have current work authorization and be legally authorized to work in the U.S. nVent does not provide work authorization sponsorship.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
  • Willingness to learn and to work collaboratively with all levels within the organization
  • Energy to listen, desire to learn and ability to be resilient and adaptable through change
  • Strong work ethic and personal responsibility to see things through to completion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
