Job summary

nVent’s Lean Internship in Blaine, MN invites you to apply lean principles in a real-world manufacturing environment. You will observe processes, document cycle times, identify value-added activities, and assist with improvement projects such as 5S and visual management.

The 12-week, full-time summer program offers mentorship and exposure to leadership within a global electrical solutions leader. Interns are paid $22 hourly and are responsible for transportation to and from work.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Graduating between December 2027 and June 2028.
  • Available for a 12-week full-time summer internship in Blaine, MN.
  • Must have current work authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and collaborate with all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Observe processes, document cycle times, and identify value-added vs non-value-added activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives: 5S, visual management, shadow boards, workspace organization.
  • Assist with operational improvement projects: tool shadow boards, labels, and material movement carts.
  • Update and organize documents in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Partner with operations and support teams to implement improvements.

Lean Internship

This internship offers the opportunity to apply Lean principles in a real-world manufacturing environment. You will work alongside operations and support teams to identify improvement opportunities and help bring practical solutions to life. This is a 12-week full-time internship during the summer 2027.

  • Spend time in manufacturing areas observing processes, documenting cycle times, and identifying value-added versus non-value-added activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, visual management, shadow boards, and workspace organization.
  • Assist with a variety of operational improvement projects, such as:
  • Creating or updating tool shadow boards for workstations
  • Updating workstation and floor location labels
  • Assembling carts for material movement within and between work cells
  • Scanning and organizing documents into retention folders
  • Updating Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents
  • Partner with operations and support teams to understand needs, communicate updates, and help implement improvements.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Interns are paid $22 hourly for time worked. Interns are responsible for transportation to and from work. Interns who demonstrate outstanding performance may be offered a subsequent internship or full-time offer of employment with nVent.

The Lean Internship is based out of our facility in Blaine, MN.

Required Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain and Operations Management, Production and Inventory control, Engineering.
  • Graduating with an undergraduate degree between December 2027 and June 2028.
  • Ability to complete a 12-week Full-Time Summer internship from May/June-August 2027 in Blaine, MN.
  • Candidates applying for nVent's Co-Op and Internship Program must have current work authorization and be legally authorized to work in the U.S. nVent does not provide work authorization sponsorship.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Willingness to learn and to work collaboratively with all levels within the organization.
  • Energy to listen, desire to learn and ability to be resilient and adaptable through change.
  • Strong work ethic and personal responsibility to see things through to completion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
