Job summary

nVent’s Lab Internship offers a 6-month, full-time opportunity based in Anoka, MN. You’ll support the R&D Lab technician team and work with Lab Test Engineers on performance tests, agency approvals, and prototype assembly.

Rotations include Mechanical and Electrical/Control tracks with hands-on testing, data collection, documentation, and exposure to UL/CSA/NEMA/IEC standards. Interns are paid $25/hour and may receive a full-time offer if performance excels.

Qualifications

Lab Internship

nVent’s Lab Co-Op will provide the opportunity to support R & D Lab technician team and work with Lab Test Engineers in the administration of product performance tests, agency approval tests, development tests, and assembly of prototype products while gaining exposure and valuable development experiences within a global manufacturing organization. This is a 6 month, full time internship taking place from Jan – June 2027.

Depending on the degree and/or desired career path, co-ops will be placed into some combination of the following rotations:

Mechanical Engineering Track
  • Develop technical knowledge of nVent product construction and assembly

  • Perform product performance testing

  • Update standard work documentation as needed

  • Develop an understanding of agency performance testing such as UL, CSA, NEMA and IEC

  • Work with the internal partners to modify and expand test plans and procedures

  • Generate written reports of test results in an accurate, concise manner, drawing sound conclusions and observations

  • Set up and operate lab equipment

  • Design and build equipment and fixtures to conduct testing

  • Support and participate new product development Lean activities (i.e. DFMEA-Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Design Reviews, 3P Conceptual Design event)

  • Assist engineers with design and development of test machinery and equipment as required

  • Provide testing and engineering support for Engineered Solution and Value Engineering projects

  • Assist with lab improvement projects, lab processes, and test management systems to increase capacity and reduce overall risk.

Electrical/Control Tracks
  • Develop technical knowledge of nVent product construction and assembly

  • Conduct tests using various types of lab equipment that integrate with hardware, data acquisition and software.

  • Update standard work documentation as needed

  • Develop an understanding of agency performance testing such as UL, CSA, NEMA and IEC

  • Develop electrical and electromechanical connection circuit diagrams for instruments, electronic operating room equipment, or systems for automated data acquisition, analysis, and visualization

  • Develop and maintain data acquisition and logging systems, ensuring accurate tracking of test results and equipment performance.

  • Background in instrumentation and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems

  • Implement and debug control systems for new test equipment, including PLC logic, HMI interfaces, and industrial communication networks

  • Support team members in design, conducting experiments, data acquisition and analysis, troubleshooting, assembly and fabrication of prototypes and equipment.

  • Assist in developing laboratory testing, interpreting data results, and recommending the next steps.

  • Assist engineers with design and development of control programs and equipment as required

  • Assist with lab improvement projects, automated data logging processes, and test management systems to increase capacity and reduce overall risk.

Internship Details
  • Interns are paid $25 an hour for time worked

  • Interns are responsible for transportation to and from work

  • Interns who demonstrate outstanding performance may be offered a subsequent internship or full-time offer of employment with nVent

  • The Lab Internship is based out of our facility in Anoka, MN.

YOU HAVE:
Required Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or electrical engineering preferred

  • Current Junior, Graduating with an undergraduate degree between December 2027 and June 2028.

  • Ability to complete a 6 month Full-Time internship from Jan – June 2027 in Anoka, MN

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills

  • Willingness to learn and to work collaboratively with all levels within the organization

  • Energy to listen, desire to learn and ability to be resilient and adaptable through change

  • Strong work ethic and personal responsibility to see things through to completion

Preferred Qualifications:
