Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Lean Engineer I or II to join our Solar Team, expanding kaizen-based continuous improvement across project sites. The role emphasizes lean tools, 5S, and flow construction to enhance safety and efficiency, with 75–100% travel to project sites and relocation as needed. Compensation varies by level and location.

Both levels welcome applicants with construction exposure and a growth mindset. This is a full-time position with a strong incentive plan and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent.
• Internship or early career experience in construction or manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of lean or continuous improvement principles.
• Driver's license and ability to travel 75–100%.

Responsibilities

• Lead kaizen workshops with project teams.
• Help project teams embrace lean tools (GEMBA walks, DMS, idea capture).
• Partner with project leadership to establish trust for lean approaches.
• Build relationships across organizational levels.
• Reinforce continuous improvement principles after workshops.
• Support forepersons in observing work and addressing abnormalities.
• Encourage crews to brainstorm and implement improvements.
• Apply 5S with project teams and trade partners.
• Participate in flow schedule development for relevant work phases.
• Promote one-piece flow and reduce batching.
