Job summary

The San Joaquin Probation Department – Juvenile Services Division is seeking a Juvenile Detention Unit Supervisor to oversee a living unit, supervise staff, and ensure safety, discipline and program delivery for youth in custody.

The ideal candidate will have law enforcement or correctional supervision experience, possess a California driver’s license, and complete required training within the first year. This role emphasizes mentoring, collaboration and ensuring compliance with policies.

Qualifications

• One year as a Juvenile Detention Officer with San Joaquin County.
• Two years of full-time experience in law enforcement or supervision in related settings.
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
• Completion of required Juvenile Corrections Officer core training within the first year of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Assigns, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff.
• Develops positive relationships with youthful offenders to gain compliance and build trust.
• Assess programs and progress; prepares reports.
• Maintain conduct records and reports as needed.
• Ensure adherence to facility and departmental policies and rules.
• Provide safety, security and discipline within the unit; supervise direct youth contact and may restrain youth when necessary.
