Job summary

Didlake, Inc. is seeking a Lead Worker – Janitor in the Washington, D.C. area. The role directs cleaning crews, trains staff on procedures, and ensures safety and contract compliance within the facility.

You will oversee janitorial tasks, manage supplies, and support operations, with an emphasis on teamwork and respectful interaction with individuals with disabilities. The position runs 5:30am-2:30pm and pays $23.80 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Previous custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of general cleaning products and equipment.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to work with people with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and monitor trash, restroom, and fire stairwell crews to keep areas clean and safe.
  • Respond to spills, remove trash, and transport materials to disposal areas.
  • Clean and maintain restrooms, recycle rooms, service elevators, cleaning closets, storage areas and other assigned areas.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors and carpets; remove carpet spots with approved equipment.
  • Receive, count, store, and replenish custodial supplies needed for daily operations.
  • Monitor use of equipment and adherence to safety policies and contract requirements; report concerns.
  • Operate power equipment and assist with snow removal and inclement weather as needed.
  • Complete required paperwork and training; foster teamwork and safe workplace conduct.

Why This Role Matters

The Lead Worker – Janitor provides support, assistance, and guidance to individuals with significant disabilities to help develop work skills and support growth and upward mobility within Didlake. This position assists the Janitorial Supervisor with the direction, coordination, and supervision of cleaning crews, performs janitorial tasks in accordance with contract guidelines, and provides ongoing training on standard operating procedures and the safe operation of equipment.

What You Will Do

  • Direct and monitor trash, restroom, and fire stairwell crews to ensure assigned areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Respond to liquid spills, remove trash and waste materials, and transport materials to designated disposal areas.
  • Clean and maintain restrooms, recycle rooms, service elevators, cleaning closets, storage areas, and other assigned work areas.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors, rugs, carpets, and other surfaces, including removing carpet spots using approved equipment and products.
  • Receive, count, store, and replenish custodial supplies needed for daily operations.
  • Monitor proper use of equipment and adherence to safety policies, procedures, and contract requirements, and report concerns or safety issues to supervisors.
  • Operate power equipment and assist with snow removal and other inclement weather needs as required.
  • Complete required paperwork and training while fostering positive teamwork, quality work, and appropriate workplace conduct.
Requirements

What You Bring

You bring previous custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience, knowledge of general cleaning products and equipment, and the ability to follow safety procedures. Dependability, teamwork, leadership, and the ability to work effectively with people with disabilities are essential.

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED, or
  • Minimum of (1) year of previous custodial or janitorial experience.

Skills & Abilities

  • A valid REAL ID is required to enter this worksite.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this worksite.
  • Possess the ability to pass a background check and maintain a clearance.
  • Ability to carry out simple but detailed instructions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to remind and train staff on standard operating procedures and safe operation of equipment.
  • Ability to apply good judgment in fulfilling responsibilities.
  • Some knowledge of equipment and chemicals used, i.e., scrubbers, Billy Goat blowers, vacuums, snowblowers, and EZ-Go.
  • Ability to interact effectively and positively with employees with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of general cleaning products and equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate or learn to operate custodial and power equipment.
  • Must possess and demonstrate high initiative, adaptability, reliability, flexibility, and a positive team member attitude.
  • Ability to respond to work during inclement weather and other essential personnel situations.
