Job summary

The City of Kinston is seeking a Lead Worker to oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution and sewer collection systems. The role includes training crew members, ensuring safety protocols, and guiding field operations to maintain public utilities service levels.

Candidates should have strong knowledge of utility line work, experience with heavy equipment, and the ability to respond to after-hours emergencies.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school with extensive water/sewer utility work experience.
• NC Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within required timeframe.
• Possession or ability to obtain Grade C Water Distribution and Grade 1 Wastewater Certification within 12 months of hire.
• Experience operating heavy construction equipment and machinery.
• Proven ability to train and supervise crew members in field operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead crews in installing, maintaining and repairing water distribution and sewer lines and related infrastructure.
• Provide on-site instruction and monitor safety and quality of work.
• Investigate leaks and perform repairs on water mains and service lines.
• Oversee hydrant and valve maintenance, meters, taps and related components.
• Coordinate with utilities, review work orders, and complete daily logs.
