Job summary

NYC Department of Environmental Protection seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer to support the Water System Capital Program. The role involves planning, coordinating, and directing the design and construction of critical watershed projects, including dams, pipes, and treatment facilities.

Under supervision, you will monitor permits, review documents, conduct field surveys, and participate in inspections with the construction management team. Residency is not required for NYC postings.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of fulltime satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering technology and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and a master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct the design and construction of projects in the NYC watershed.
• Monitor permit requirements and assist in resolving project issues.
• Conduct field condition surveys and prepare accurate reports on physical observation.
• Review contract documents, codes and regulations to identify deficiencies.
• Participate in field investigations to develop alternative approaches and solutions.
• Work with the construction management team to perform inspections of the construction activity.
• Attend environmental compliance and safety training classes.
