Job summary

The City of Grand Rapids is seeking a skilled, lead-level worker to supervise a water and sewer utility crew responsible for repairs, installation, operation, and maintenance of the water distribution and sanitary/storm sewer systems.

Ideal candidates will have seven years in sanitary or storm collection, lead experience, and relevant licenses/certifications. The role emphasizes training, coordination, and accurate record-keeping in a safety-conscious environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum seven years of work experience in sanitary or storm collection systems.
• Experience in appurtenance repair, installation, and maintenance.
• Experience in water distribution pipeline installation and maintenance.
• Experience operating equipment.
• Some lead experience or equivalent training/experience.

Responsibilities

• Plans, evaluates, organizes, schedules, assigns and coordinates the work of subordinate water and sewer utility workers.
• Oversees safety rules, standards, and precautions.
• Leads lead worker duties related to construction, installation, and maintenance of the water/sewer system.
• Operates excavation, backfilling, and trench work with appropriate safety measures.
• Maintains and reviews work orders and prepares time records for payroll.
