Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree preferred; applicable experience may substitute.
• 5+ years of progressive Property and Casualty underwriting or related experience.
• Ability to translate quantitative and qualitative metrics into decision making.
• Ability to travel to agent, vendor, or conference locales.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to use discretion, critical thinking, and independent judgment.
• Ability to successfully multi-task.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage underwriting team to meet portfolio objectives and profitability.
• Improve ease of doing business and remove obstacles to doing business with the Company.
• Train and support the team on new processes, procedures, systems, and guidelines.
• Coordinate underwriting related system changes.
• Ensure proper staffing levels to achieve expectations while managing costs.
• Use discretion and independent judgment to resolve issues.
• Participate in performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
• Communicate job expectations by planning, monitoring, and appraising results.
• Build and maintain relationships with agents and vendors; travel as needed.
• Define and implement underwriting strategy and policies for responsible product lines.
• Oversee review and approval for complex cases.
• Ensure compliance with risk criteria and guidelines; manage processing.
• Develop company responses to regulatory and consumer agencies.
• Implement profitability initiatives and quality objectives.
• Participate in cross-functional teams on corporate initiatives.
• Communicate professionally with all stakeholders.
• Maintain integrity of company and products per regulations.
