Job summary

Heritage Insurance Holdings, Inc. is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller for our Johnston, RI location. The role leads accounting operations, closes monthly books, and ensures Statutory and US GAAP reporting accuracy.

You will supervise the accounting team, maintain internal controls, and coordinate audits with external auditors and regulators. Strong Excel skills and CPA-preferred credentials are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA strongly preferred.
• 7+ years of accounting experience, including 5+ years in property/casualty insurance.
• Strong knowledge of Statutory accounting principles; US GAAP experience essential.
• Proven leadership, strategic thinking, and presentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily accounting and financial reporting, including month-end close, balance sheet reviews, and financial statements.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including temporary staff and interns.
• Design, document, and test internal controls to ensure regulatory and policy compliance.
• Oversee quarterly and annual Statutory filings.
• Maintain controls over the general ledger and month-end close process; review entries and reconciliations.
• Research complex accounting matters and provide Statutory and US GAAP recommendations.
• Ensure SOX compliance and adherence to corporate policies.
• Prepare monthly statements and variance analyses; develop management reports and metrics.
• Coordinate annual Statutory and GAAP audits; liaise with external auditors and regulators.
• Monitor assets including accounts receivable; support capital adequacy assessments.
