Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead advanced UAV electronics design, including circuit, RF, FPGA, and power distribution, with emphasis on reliability and cross-functional collaboration. You will supervise a small team, guide R&D projects, document designs, and support Flight Test operations while ensuring compliance with ITAR/EAR requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
• 12–15 years of R&D experience; Aerospace experience preferred.
• Expert in circuit design including RF, embedded control, FPGA; power distribution and video.
• Advanced knowledge of LVDS, I2C, HDMI, UART, SPI, CAN, USB, MIPI.
• Battery Management Systems and Battery Charging Systems knowledge.
• Familiar with PCB design and battery-powered UAVs.
• Experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Strong fundamentals in engineering, mathematics, physics, and materials.

Responsibilities

• Operate CAD/CAE software to perform engineering tasks on UAV systems.
• Inspect installations and ensure conformance to design and safety standards.
• Collaborate with avionics, embedded systems, and RF teams; support Flight Test.
• Troubleshoot complex systems and document designs with drawings and descriptions.
• Lead small teams or projects and provide supervision as needed.
• Contribute to budgets and cost estimates for labor and materials.
• Address root causes to improve reliability and sustainability.
• Make independent method decisions on new assignments.
