Job Summary

The Lead Tutor is a part‑time position that provides subject‑matter expert, community professional‑led tutoring for a variety of courses. This position serves to share knowledge and understanding of course‑specific content and relate services to real‑world applications, while assisting students in improving academic achievement, supporting students by reviewing and clarifying learning problems, and providing useful study skills and supplemental resource support. Additionally, this position supports practices of supplemental instruction and supports Success Coaches in outreach and retention efforts of students.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct face‑to‑face and online one‑on‑one, group and/or drop‑in tutoring sessions.
  • Attend class sessions for Co‑requisite Math or English to assist students who utilize the centers.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty and Academic Support Services on classroom visits.
  • Assist students with specific course‑related concepts and problems.
  • Facilitate development of effective, related study skills.
  • Consult with faculty for course resources, guidance, and direction.
  • Provide course‑related support resources such as handouts, worksheets, or additional learning activities.
  • Provide resources for midterm and final exam preparation.
  • Conduct announcements to promote Academic Support Services.
  • Perform first‑line tasks related to retention outreach, tracking, data collection, and reporting, utilizing student information systems (SIS) such as Banner and EAB.
  • Participate in trainings and regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Work no more than 19 hours per week.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree.
  • Strong understanding of subject matter in assigned tutoring areas.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Prior teaching or tutoring experience at the university level.
Proposed Salary

The salary is $20 per hour for 19 hours or less per week.

  • Knowledge of related subject‑matter principles and tutoring strategies.
  • Knowledge of research formats, classroom practices, teaching methodologies, assessment systems, and educational technology.
  • Skill in tutoring students face‑to‑face and in a virtual/online learning environment.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job‑related software programs.
  • Skill in timely decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Albany State University.
