Job summary

The Georgia Public Defender Council (GPDC) is expanding its Specialized Unit in the Metro Office, located in Downtown Atlanta. The APD IV will serve as a lead trial attorney handling serious and complex felony cases across the greater metro Atlanta area.

The attorney must have substantial courtroom experience and be licensed to practice law in Georgia, with the ability to travel. Duties include trial preparation, motions, sentencing advocacy, and client-centered representation.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and admission to the Georgia Bar.
• Substantial courtroom and trial experience in criminal law.
• Ability to handle high-level felony litigation and complex cases.
• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead first-chair felony cases statewide within the Specialized Unit.
• Prepare cases from pre-trial through trial and resolution.
• Review discovery, interview clients, and file motions.
• Represent clients at arraignments, hearings, and trials; negotiate as needed.
• Coordinate with prosecutors, judges, and support staff to manage caseload.
