Job summary

The State of Georgia – Georgia Public Defender Council (GPDC) is expanding its Specialized Unit in the Metro Office, located in Downtown Atlanta. The APD IV will serve as a lead trial attorney handling high-stakes felonies across the greater Atlanta area, from case preparation through trial and resolution.

This role requires substantial courtroom experience, strong advocacy, and the ability to manage a demanding caseload while maintaining client-centered representation.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university required.
• Licensed to practice law in Georgia (or eligible by next examination).
• Substantial courtroom and trial experience; first-chair capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead trial attorney in the Specialized Unit for high-level felony cases in the Metro area.
• First-chairing cases through trial and resolution.
• Review discovery, interview witnesses, and prepare motions and briefs.
• Develop defense strategies and manage complex caseloads with professionalism.
