Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) seeks a Transportation Engineer 3 to lead design and construction activities within the Project Engineering Office, delivering highway projects that improve safety and capacity. You will oversee contracts, schedules, and design documentation and mentor staff.

Strong collaboration with offices and partners is required; flexible/hybrid remote work options are available to support project delivery statewide.

Qualifications

Foundational knowledge of transportation engineering principles and practices.
Experience in preparing and managing project development schedules.
Experience leading, training, and overseeing staff in project work.
Experience inspecting contractor work and ensuring compliance with standards.
Experience evaluating data and creating designs with standard software.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Growth mindset and service orientation.
Ability to travel to project sites and operate state-owned vehicles.

Responsibilities

Develop and oversee contracts and design documentation for State Highway projects.
Manage project development schedules, coordinate deliverables, and report progress and budget.
Direct complex design projects through design and plan preparation.
Perform CADD and data analysis to support project development.
Mentor others in WSDOT design processes and inspection methods.
Serve as Chief Inspector for construction projects.
Direct construction inspection activities and document field work.
Coordinate with contractors and offices to document work and final records.
